Personal expenses

  • U need an international passport to enter The Gambia and Senegal. The passport must be valid for 6 months upon departure.
  • On arrival and departure from Gambia you must pay an airport tax of 20 euros.
  • Your booking with Gambia Photo Birding is confirmed when you email us a copy of your flight.
  • Take cash money (Euro’s) with you. The full amount of your trip has to be paid in Euro on the arrival day.
  • The guide will also exchange the money for your personal expenses, drinks and tips for you in Dalasi’s upon arrival.
  • Contact a travel clinic at least 6 weeks before your departure to The Gambia to arrange your vaccinations and necessary medications. Gambia and Senegal are countries where malaria occurs. Protect yourself with malaria medication and mosquito spray based on DEET and try to sleep under a mosquito net as much as possible. Please note: a mosquito net is not available in all lodges.
  • Take a good travel pharmacy with you, your doctor can help you with this. What you definitely need is ORS (oral rehydration solution), medication for stomach and abdominal complaints, a general antibiotic, painkillers and a basic first aid kit.
  • Bring light and comfortable clothing that protects you from the sun. We regularly walk through tall grasses and savannah areas, so adjust your footwear, but keep it light because it can get very hot during the day. Protect yourself with a high factor sunscreen!
